In a Dark Wood
Contemporary, Action-Adventure (followed by The Parting Glass)
In a dark, dark wood there was a dark, dark house...
Camping in the Jersey Pine Barrens may literally turn out to be a first date from hell for travel writer Tim and the cute cop who persuades him to revisit a past that Tim has done his best to forget.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
A beautiful story that confirms my belief that Josh Lanyon is a wonderful voice in M/M romance.
In a Dark Wood needs to be singled out for special praise. The comedic one liners which Lanyon has employed so successfully in his other works are here, as is a chilling ‘on the edge of your seat’ scene that wouldn’t disgrace Stephen King in its gory detail.
What I love about Lanyon is here in spades sympathetic characters and sharp storytelling. Both men are flawed, and there is no easy answer for the romance, making it feel that much more genuine.
In A Dark Wood by Josh Lanyon is the reason to the buy this anthology in my opinion. The pacing was great, the characters were wonderfully, beautifully flawed, and the storyline was creepy enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. Often times when I read novellas, I come away feeling dissatisfied at the lack of depth to the developing relationship. This is one of those anthology contributions that I consider very rare indeed. Lanyon managed to deliver enough punch, emotions, and action in a novella to make me-as a reader-feel as satisfied as if I had read a longer piece."
